Be the Change You Want to See

Be the change you want to see in the world. Sometimes I don’t write much because I feel like I can only talk about food. But it really isn’t true to who I am. I absolutely want to have an even deeper relationship with you. And with all that has happened this week, it just doesn’t feel right to just keep talking as if nothing has happened.

There are no words. But please read on….

My words won’t be the right words. And as much as I wanted to share my new cinnamon cupcake recipe with you this week, I thought I would take a minute and share something else. Building a voice in the online world has taught me that so much good can come out of it if it is used properly.

One thing I think that sets me apart from other food bloggers is that I am very relationship driven. I don’t just care about the fact that you had to give up gluten, I care about the aftermath, the emotional part of it. No one ever talks about that, but it’s a huge part of it in my eyes and I want you to know, I am here for you.

But I am also here to support you in other ways too and it is very important to me that I use this platform for good.

You see, I don’t watch the news! It’s embarrassing to admit but if I did, I would never leave my house. Our world has become so broken and fear takes over. I do however know about what has happened this week and I decided to watch the recording of it online. It’s so sad to me how people choose to exercise their power.

I sat and thought about how I felt and all I could think about was the place we eat out at almost every week.

Literally the only place we have gone and gotten a safe meal time and time again. It is not run by people of my same race or ethnicity but I see these people as family. I trust them and time and time again they have always made sure that my meal is exactly the way I order it. They love me and my family.

They have sisters and brothers and moms and dads and there is especially one woman that we always talk to each week who goes above and beyond for us. I can’t imagine these friends of mine that I’ve seen for over 2 years now week after week being fearful of their lives. Being fearful for their children. It’s a terrible way to live.

There’s another man a my local grocery store who used to help me find the perfect turkey when I first started cooking my own. I will never forget him.

I try always to be positive and share food and family here but today I wanted to share this… During during this time (especially since we have had to endure all this corona stuff to stay safe) let’s make sure to look beyond just the people who might be a different race but only in our inner circle.

Let’s look at all the men and women out there who have brought our groceries to us, given us safe meals and helped us in ways that we will never forget.

When I see these people I see loyalty, friendship and God, teaching me and my kids that we are all made the same no matter what.

We have the power to choose, so let’s choose differently.

Start today with the mindset that you’ll reach out and say an extra thank you, or give an extra smile to someone who may think that you won’t do it.

One by one, let’s be the change we want to see in this world of ours. Whether they are wearing a mask, share a different color skin or speak in a different language.

We can do this!
