Andrea’s gluten free flour is one thing you will always find in my pantry.
Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, it is time to think about sugar cookies and gingerbread houses. And when it comes to holiday baking, we all know that our flour is probably the most important ingredient. Especially when it comes to gluten free baking.
As with all of the gluten free food from when I began, gluten free flour has definitely come a long way. Today, there are definitely many more options to choose from.
Andrea’s gluten free flour is probably one of the flours I have used the most in my baking. It has a neutral flavor and very few ingredients. This flour contains: Brown Rice flour, Potato Starch, Tapioca Starch and Xanthan Gum and it retails for $7.99.
The only problem with this flour is that it is only available at select grocery stores like Schnucks, Dierbergs and Hyvee. To my knowledge, this flour cannot be purchased online.
For those of you in the St. Louis area, you must try this flour. It’s the perfect cup for cup substitute and it already contains xanthan gum. We will discuss this later, but often times if a gluten free flour does not contain xantham, it would be sometimes be necessary to add it or something comparable to your baking mix.
This is not the only gluten free flour in my pantry.
In fact, over the years I have experimented with several different flours. Since Andrea’s is locally owned and not readily available online, I am currently testing more flours to find that one perfect blend.
So if Andrea’s is not available in your area, don’t worry. I guarantee that one of the many flours in my pantry will work for you.
In the upcoming posts, I will be doing a gluten free flour challenge where I compare a few new gluten free flours and use them to make identical recipes. I will then compare and share my results with you. I am really excited about this and think it will be so fun.
In future recipe posts, if I use Andrea’s I will write that in, but also give you a universal alternative. I want to be able to make things easy for everyone. Who knows, maybe we can find a way to get Andrea’s sold online after all.
